Essential Oils for Perfumery

Naturals in bulk for perfumery houses and fragrance compounders

We supply natural raw materials to perfumers and fragrance houses in North America, with particular depth in Madagascar and Quebec botanicals that are hard to source consistently through the usual channels.

What we supply

What perfumers get from an origin supplier

Fractions, not just names. Ylang ylang is sold as Extra, I, II, III and Complete, and they are not interchangeable in a formula. We distil the full sequence, so you can specify the fraction rather than accept whatever arrives.

Materials that are genuinely difficult to find. Longoza, katrafay, ravensara anisata and Labrador tea are produced in small seasonal volumes. If you are building a signature accord around one of them, continuity of supply is the whole question, and that is easier to promise when you control the distillation.

Regulatory clarity up front. Materials with IFRA or estragole considerations, such as tagetes and ravensara anisata, are flagged on their product pages rather than discovered at the compliance stage.

Grades and fractions

Several of the materials a compounder buys are not single products. Ylang ylang is fractionated during distillation into Extra, First, Second and Third, each cut taken at a different point and each smelling and behaving differently in a formula. Buying “ylang ylang” without naming the fraction means accepting whatever the seller has. Name the grade you are building against and we will quote it, or send the range so your evaluator can place them.

The same applies to chemotypes. Niaouli, rosemary, thyme and eucalyptus each cover several materials that share a common name and diverge sharply in odour and in regulatory treatment. We state the chemotype on the quote rather than leaving it to be discovered at the bench.

Evaluating against a retained standard

Odour descriptions do not travel well between a supplier and a perfumer. The workable method is a physical reference: approve a sample, keep a retain, and have every subsequent lot assessed against it. We will hold the approved reference at our end and supply retains with shipments where odour is the critical parameter, which is the case for most fine fragrance work and for anything going into a compounded accord at a fixed dosage.

IFRA, allergens and your safety file

Fine fragrance and personal care compounders generally work within the IFRA Standards for restricted and prohibited materials, and declare the fragrance allergens listed in EU Annex III for products labelled for Europe. Naturals carry allergens intrinsically, so citral in lemongrass or litsea, eugenol in clove, linalool in lavender and rosewood, and limonene across the citrus range all need to be accounted for in a finished compound rather than treated as contaminants.

Tell us with the enquiry what your safety file needs for the material and we will confirm what we can provide for the lot being quoted. Where we cannot supply a particular document we will say so rather than let you assume it is coming.

Crop variation and continuity of supply

Naturals move with the harvest. A formula approved against one crop year can shift the following season, and for materials distilled in short seasonal windows the constraint is availability rather than price. Where a material is central to a compound in production, the sensible pattern is to agree acceptance ranges, approve a retain, and reserve volume against a harvest instead of ordering against your own production calendar.

Our Madagascar and Quebec materials come from operations we control end to end, so when a season is tight we can tell you early rather than pass on a substitution without notice.

Common questions from perfumery buyers

Can you supply a specific ylang ylang fraction consistently?

Yes, within the limits of a natural material. Name the fraction and the acceptance range, approve a retain, and we quote and ship against that reference. Where a season will not hold your range we will tell you before you commit rather than after.

Do you sell isolates or only whole oils?

Our business is whole naturals distilled and pressed at origin. If your formula needs an isolate we will say so plainly rather than sell you an approximation.

How do you handle odour approval on repeat orders?

Against a retained standard you have approved, not against a written description. We hold the reference and assess subsequent lots to it.

What is the minimum for a compounding house?

It varies by material. Some oils are distilled in small seasonal volumes and others we hold in quantity. Send the materials and annual usage and we will confirm what is workable.

Can we evaluate before committing to volume?

Yes. Samples are available across the range. Name what you want on the bench and they go out with the quote.

Documentation and samples

Every bulk order ships with a technical data sheet, a safety data sheet and a certificate of analysis for the lot. Samples are available for evaluation before you commit to a volume, and we will quote against your own specification where you have one.
