Tamanu is a vegetable carrier oil, not an essential oil. It is thick, deeply coloured and strongly scented, so it carries its own odour and colour into a finished formula. Most formulators use it as a percentage of the oil phase rather than as the whole base. It also solidifies at cool temperatures, which is normal and reverses on warming.
